Ruko is the first peace-keeping community wildlife conservancy in East Africa, 19,000 acres on the beautiful eastern shores of Lake Baringo in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Comprised of the Njemps and Pokot ethnic groups, they are turning to conservation as an instrument for peace, working to rejuvenate the ecosystem and create a better future for their children. |

The Longicharo Nursery school hosted 60 children from both communities from three schools for a morning art workshop in February 2007 to make these pieces that you now hold. The first time they’d seen artistic instruments other than a pencil, they delighted in drawing the world around them. Though filled with eager students, the schools lack the basic facilities and resources to be true institutes of education, and through art, Ruko and the Globe Foundation hope to make this possible. |
